How to add a link to your Story on Instagram
Adding a link to your Story – only on Business or Creator accounts. Step-by-step guide to enable and use it.
Last updated: January 20, 2024
A link in your Story lets followers tap and go to your website, landing page or any other URL – directly from the Story. The feature is only available on Business or Creator accounts. This guide shows you how to enable and add it.
When it's useful
- When you have a Business or Creator profile and want to send traffic from Stories to your site/page.
- When you're promoting a product, event signup or content that needs a click.
- When you want to measure traffic from Stories (e.g. via UTM or a dedicated landing page).
Steps to add a link to your Story
-
Make sure your account is Business/Creator – Settings > Account type. If not – convert to Business or Creator. Read How to create a business profile on Instagram.
-
Create a Story – Record or upload photo/video as usual. Edit (text, stickers) if you want.
-
Add the link – Tap the sticker icon (circle with raised corner) or "Link" / "Add link" (depending on version). A field appears to enter the URL.
-
Paste the URL – Paste the full URL (including https://). Make sure the page is live and working.
-
Add button text (if shown) – e.g. "Tap here," "Download," "Shop." This can increase taps.
-
Share the Story – "Share to story." Viewers will see a button (e.g. "See more" or "Swipe up") that leads to the link.
Common mistakes
- Looking for link on a personal account – Not possible. You need a Business or Creator profile.
- Broken or unavailable link – Check before publishing. A link that doesn't open hurts credibility.
- Story too busy – Too much text and stickers can hide the link button. Keep the slide simple and clear.
- No call to action – Write clearly "Tap here" or "Swipe up" so people know there's a link.
Summary
Add a link to your Story only after converting to a Business/Creator profile. Choose "Link" or "Add link" in your Story, enter the URL, add button text if you can – and share. Followers will see a button that leads to your site.
