Last updated: February 10, 2026
"I don't have a link in my Story" – In most cases the reason is that your account is personal. Links in Stories are only available on Business or Creator accounts. Here's why and what to do.
When it happens / why it happens
- Personal account – On Instagram, the Story link is a professional feature. Regular (Personal) accounts don't see "Link" or "Add link" in Stories.
- New account – Even after opening an account, without converting to professional – no link.
- Region or version – In some regions or versions there are limits. Make sure the app is updated.
What to do – step by step
-
Check account type – Settings > Account (or Account). If it says "Personal" or "Personal account" – no Story link.
-
Convert to professional account – Settings > Account > Switch to professional account / Switch to professional account. Choose a category and Business or Creator. Conversion doesn't delete content or followers. Full guide: How to create a business profile on Instagram.
-
Creator if you don't have Facebook – If Instagram requires a Facebook page for Business and you don't have one – choose Creator. You get Insights, Story link and category without connecting Facebook.
-
After conversion – Create a Story. On the edit screen tap the sticker icon or "Add link." A field appears to enter the URL. How to add a link to your Story.
-
If it still doesn't appear – Make sure the app is updated. If it's updated and still missing – try logging out and back in or check if there are regional limits.
Common mistakes
- Looking for "Link" in the main menu – The link appears inside a Story when adding a sticker/link, not in Settings.
- Thinking you need X followers – There's no follower requirement. Only a professional account type.
- Insisting on Business with Facebook – Creator gives you the same Story link without a page.
Summary
You can't add a link in your Story on a personal account – only on Business or Creator. Convert via Settings > Switch to professional account, choose Business or Creator, and after conversion "Link" appears in Stories.
