How to add more than one photo to a Story

Adding multiple photos or slides to a Story – burst shots, gallery upload and creating a Story with several frames.

Last updated: February 10, 2026

Want a Story with multiple photos or slides – e.g. a photo gallery, before/after or short story? You can add photos and videos one after another; each appears as a slide that viewers swipe through.

When it's useful

  • Photo gallery – Several shots from an event, product or tip.
  • Before and after – Compare two slides.
  • Short story – A sequence of 3–5 slides with text or stickers.

How to add more than one photo – step by step

  1. Open Story – Tap + or "Add to your story" and take one photo or upload from gallery.

  2. Add a second slide – After editing (text, stickers) the first slide, tap the gallery icon (top or side). Pick a second photo – it's added right after the first.

  3. Edit each slide – After picking a photo, edit it (text, filter). Then "Gallery" again and pick a third photo, and so on.

  4. Video instead of photo – Same way – pick a video from gallery (up to 15 seconds per slide) or record. Each clip/photo = one slide.

  5. Share – When all slides are ready, "Share to story." Viewers see the first slide and swipe right for the next.

Common mistakes

  • Looking for "Multi" in the menu – There's no separate button. Add slides via the gallery after each slide.
  • Uploading photos that are too large – Instagram resizes. 9:16 or 4:5 aspect ratio helps avoid unexpected cropping.
  • Leaving a slide empty – Make sure each slide you want is saved before moving to the next.

Summary

Add more than one photo to a Story by tapping the gallery icon after each slide and picking another photo (or video). Each item = one slide. Edit each and share – viewers swipe between them.
