How to change your business profile category

The category on a Business or Creator profile appears under your username – "Content creator," "Fitness coach," "Store" and so on. If you've changed direction or picked the wrong category – you can change it in Settings.

When it's relevant

• Switching niches – You moved from one field to another; the old category no longer fits.
• Initial choice was inaccurate – You picked something generic when converting and want to refine it.
• Aligning with bio and content – A consistent category with your bio and content helps visitors understand.

How to change category – step by step

1. Make sure your account is professional – Category only exists on Business or Creator accounts. If not – How to create a business profile.

2. Open Settings – Profile > Menu (three lines) > Settings and privacy.

3. Find "Account type" – Under Account. You may see "Professional account" and tapping it opens options.

4. Choose "Switch category" – A list of categories appears. Search or scroll and pick the new one (e.g. "Content creator," "Business consultant," "Retail store").

5. Save – The category updates immediately on your profile. No further confirmation needed.

Common mistakes

• Searching on your profile – You can't edit the category by tapping the profile. Only through Settings.
• Thinking it changes account type – Changing category doesn't switch from Business to Creator or vice versa. Only the text under your name changes.
• Keeping an irrelevant category – A category that fits your content helps visitors and the algorithm.
